EverGreen Landscape Associates Spring Bulb Season

Did you know bulbs can be planted right up until the ground is frozen? That means you can even plant them in November and December!

Bulbs are the first flower to greet us after a long winter, so we always recommend this addition to your outdoor design! Our first recommendation for the Chicagoland area is a selection of the Dutch Master Daffodil, Snow Drop, and Dwarf Iris.

When we’ve worked on St. Charles homes looking to enhance their curb appeal, we love to add bulb packages and interplant in multiple varieties. The Dutch Master has big showy yellow pedals that stand out from a longer distance away. These are hardy and love to make a statement.

The white Snow Drop and yellow, purple, and white Dwarf Iris are tinier but add fun ground cover around the Daffodils.  Another excellent addition to our interplanting design is to add the Pink Lady Daffodil which shows a pink splash on a white background.

Designer Tip: Frequently, customers ask about how to dispose of their bulb’s spent leaves once they turn yellow. We recommend allowing the plan to absorb the most amount of nutrients each season so it can bloom again the next year.

This means, letting the leaves yellow and brown until they are dried. If you are concerned about the look of these leaves, we can pair perfectly-timed perennials to your landscape to grow around the bulbs and hide the wilting.
