The London Plane tree is full of history and character. The more mature, the more beautiful they become!

Making up over half of all the trees in London, this species is perfect for broad spaces AND near traffic-filled streets. One of the most distinct aspects of the tree is its beautiful molted bark in shades of olive, brown, and tan.

In the winter and spring, the bark naturally cracks when the temperature goes from the warmth of the day’s sun to the evening frost!

This bark comes off in the spring and peels away leaving a gray green bark underneath that is very pleasing aesthetically.

Perfect as a shade tree for your yard, the London Plane tree is related to the more well known sycamore tree here in the U.S. It is known to perform well in areas with high air pollution, such as city urban plantings. It is also versatile enough to thrive in suburban and rural areas.

In the fall, it creates beautiful traditional fall foliage. Another delightful feature of the tree are the beautiful seed balls. These start off a neon lime, turning dark green, and then into a beautiful ruby red.
